Movement

Movement is a dynamic multi-artform production seeking to address the tribulations and experiences of black creatives. Created by The Untold Orchestra, Movement is a compelling collaborative performance capturing experiences of ‘archetypal roles, stereotypes and expectations’ that black artists and communities in Manchester face.

Through music, dance and spoken word, the piece explores the personas we project onto the world and why, forcing us to daringly delve into our shadows to finally discover an authentic sense of self.

With collaborators including Shirley May, Jenna G, Chunky, Yemi Bolatiwa, Cookie Love, Maisha Kungu, Seren Marimba and the NIA Choir, Movement is a continuation of The Untold Orchestra’s response to Nina Simone’s Four Women created as a digital performance in 2021.

The Untold Orchestra, founded in 2019, creates, curates and collaborates with people across Manchester to forge musical memories, build uplifting communities and tell stories untold.
