THE YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Over recent years the Untold Orchestra have collaborated with young artists across Manchester.

We’ve hosted cyphers and orchestral music jams with powerhouse collective KYSO, and young performers to large scale events with the JD foundation and played alongside Macnester’s emerging under 25 artists.  We have learnt from these collaborations that there is a way that orchestras can support and facilitate all types of young people and allow them to reap the benefits while we develop new ways of working.

The next phase of collaboration is the development of a youth music education programme, The Youth Orchestra.

Genuine change in the future begins by working with young people, especially in non-traditional ways where learning music is a person-led practice and we create a space where all types of music education can co-exist. An orchestral realm for inclusion, experimentation and creation. Using the benefits of the orchestra in mental and health for improving social and soft skills, we will co-develop with leaders in accessible learning ‘The Youth Orchestra’ programme. This will be a 3-year development programme that integrates performance, creativity and accessibility in music pedagogy, finding ways to upskill young people through music in a multi-modal way. Mentorship, traineeship and work experience will be interwoven into this programme for non-formal education and longer-term music engagement, for those ages 16-21 not already accessing   With inclusive pedagogy at its heart, a fresh approach and more inclusive orchestral workforce and audience will be possible. What better place to progress this movement than Greater / Manchester? Believe it or not this model doesn’t already exist. We’ve been doing the research!

Check out some of the partners we’ll be working with such as Orchestras 4 All, 42nd Street One Education Music Service, Olympias Music Foundation, Brighter Sound and Hide Out Youth Zone who we’ve been consulting with in our programme R&D.

If you’re interested in the proposal for this, potential sponsorship or would like to discuss how your organisation or young people might get involved contact as on engagement@theuntoldorchestra.com

Join the next phase of how we use orchestra for social change, break down the barriers and uplift the next generation.
